How to Use Scented Candles? Tips for Using Scented Candles Correctly

Many people are asking: Why can't scented candles be blown out? How to extinguish a scented candle without a lid? How to fix a scented candle that doesn't burn around? Although scented candles seem easy to use, you still need to master certain skills to extend their service life while maintaining the same scent. Friends who have purchased scented candles, but still have a lot of questions about the use of scented candles, let’s learn the correct usage skills of scented candles~~

1. Choose scented candles made from natural materials
Common candle base materials on the market are natural vegetable waxes such as soy wax and beeswax, as well as non-natural paraffin wax. The cost of paraffin wax is relatively low, so the candles produced are relatively cheap. However, such candles are prone to producing black smoke and releasing carcinogens that are harmful to the human body when burning. Therefore, when choosing scented candles, remember that scented candles based on natural plant wax are the first choice.

2. The first combustion must last for more than two hours or form a wax pool.
When using a scented candle for the first time, remember to burn it for more than two hours or until you see the wax pool before extinguishing it. This is to allow the wax on the surface to melt completely and prevent the melted area of the candle from being limited to the wick and causing a "memory circle". If the candle is extinguished prematurely to form a "memory circle", it will cause the candle to be heated locally and have an uneven surface, which will not only affect the appearance but also affect the life of the candle. This is something that many friends who are using scented candles for the first time find it difficult to notice.

3. How to eliminate the memory circle?
Generally, a small candle will burn for about an hour before a wax pool appears, and a large candle will usually take about two hours. However, the diameter of some scented candles is too large. Even if the first burning time has been long, a memory circle will still be formed because it cannot be heated evenly. If this is the case, you can use tinfoil to surround the mouth of the cup to create a heat-concentrating effect so that the wax on the wall of the cup can also be heated and melted.

4. Don’t blow out candles with your mouth
Many friends will just blow out the candles with their mouths just for convenience. This will not only produce black smoke and give the candle a burnt smell, but it will also cause the wax to splatter, which may cause injury if you are not careful. The more recommended method is to use tweezers or other handy tools to push the candle wick into the candle pool, let the wax oil submerge the candle flame, and then push the candle wick back to the center to cool. Don’t forget to push the candle wick back to the center to avoid the candle wick being submerged under the wax the next time you use it. In addition, if you purchase a candle extinguishing cover, you can directly use professional tools to cover the flame with the candle extinguishing cover for about 20 seconds to extinguish it.

5. Trim candle wicks regularly
Each time you burn a scented candle, more of the wick is revealed and longer. If it is not trimmed in time and a candle wick that is too long is directly lit, the flame will be too far away from the main body of the candle, which will cause the flame of the candle wick to become larger and burn too vigorously, thus producing black smoke. This will not only speed up the burning of the candle, but also affect the smell of the scented candle. At the same time, the candle wall will be blackened and affect the appearance. In addition, it will also easily lead to a circle of candle residue around the periphery. Therefore, you can regularly trim the candle wick to a length of about 5mm before or after use to maintain the burning state and control the burning quality every time.

6. Remember to close the lid after use
After using the scented candle and cooling it completely, it is recommended to cover it with a lid. This will not only prevent dust from accumulating, but also better retain the scent of the candle. In addition, scented candles are sensitive to light and temperature, and exposure to sunlight will cause the candles to change color and melt. Therefore, remember to store it in a cool place with a temperature not exceeding 27 degrees to extend the service life of scented candles.

7. Use up within half a year after lighting
The aroma source of aromatherapy candles is mainly aromatherapy essential oils, so they have a best use period. It is best to use candles that have been burned within six months to nine months to prevent the essential oil from completely evaporating and losing the aroma of the scented candle.

8. You can consider buying candle lanterns
Some friends may feel that using an open flame is too dangerous, or if they want to sleep with candlelight and fragrance, they may consider buying a candle melting lamp. The working principle of the candle melting lamp is to focus the light source on the candle, so that the surface of the candle is heated evenly, melting into candle oil, and the aromatherapy essential oil is evaporated into the air. Nowadays, there are also candle-melting lamps with a timer function, which are safer and more secure when used at night.
